Open-source tools we build and maintain

Much of our research runs on measurement and analysis software we develop in the open, including OpenPIV and OpenPTV — used by the experimental fluid mechanics community worldwide.

OpenPIV

OpenPIV

An open source particle image velocimetry project, originally developed in Matlab in 1998 by Prof. Alex Liberzon and colleagues. Now available in Matlab, C++, and Python — easy to get started, straightforward, extendable Particle Image Velocimetry for all.

OpenPTV

OpenPTV

An open source three-dimensional Particle Tracking Velocimetry software, originally created at ETH Zurich, later released by Prof. Liberzon and the OpenPTV Consortium.

PIVPy

PIVPy

Open source Particle Image Velocimetry post-processing based on Python, xarray, and Matplotlib.

MothPy

MothPy

An open-source simulator for moth-inspired odor navigation in turbulent environments, built on the pompy package to enable open, reproducible, and high-fidelity studies of airborne self-propelled navigators.

Background Oriented Schlieren with OpenPIV

Background Oriented Schlieren with OpenPIV

An OpenPIV implementation of the Background Oriented Schlieren (BOS) method for analyzing axisymmetric high-speed turbulent jets, with an accompanying Jupyter notebook and open data.

Mixed-Age Algae Population Modeling

Mixed-Age Algae Population Modeling

Population modeling software for the growth and sporulation dynamics of the macroalga Ulva in mixed-age populations, developed to address environmental challenges including green tides and to support blue-economy initiatives.
